DIVEIndia is pleased to be India's first INSTRUCTOR TRAINING facility, with a full-time Course Director and Instructor Examiner on staff.
As of right now, we offer NAUI Instructor Training Courses (ITC/ITP) at any time of the year. We can also arrange PADI IDC Instructor training at select times of the year, and expect to start SSI Instructor Training shortly as well, and also offer cross-over opportunities.
This will make us one of the few dive centers in the world offering an array of instructor training choices - this way, you are not limited by what we offer, but can decide the course or combination of courses that best suits your needs, budget and interests. Choice is a wonderful thing!
Pre-requisites
To enrol in a NAUI ITC, you need to have the following requirements:
- NAUI Divemaster or a DM certification with a recognized agency (NAUI does not recognize SDI qualifications)
The Program
The NAUI Instructor Training Course (ITC) consists of 3 modules:
1/ PREP course: This is required of all non-NAUI dive professionals and covers all the additional theory and academic requirements that are included in NAUI courses. Typical duration: 3-4 days
2/ Instructor Training Program (ITP): This is the bulk of the course, and is where you learn how to teach. Training will consist of academic sessions, teaching presentations, confined water teaching sessions and open water teaching sessions. Typical duration: 8-10 days
3/ Instructor Qualification Program (IQP): This is where you are tested on what you have learned in the ITP, and show whether or not you are ready to be certified as a NAUI Instructor. This section is strictly pass/fail.
Keep in mind that this schedule is not set in stone. Unlike a lot of other Instructor Training Programs which follow a rigid schedule and, in case students are falling behind, focus on teaching them to pass the exam as opposed to become a good instructor, our training extends the duration of the ITP if need be. Our goal is to teach you to become a good instructor - passing the IQP is a natural, and secondary, benefit of that. As such, in keeping with our philosophy on every course that we teach, starting from Open Water, the training is focused around your development as an instructor, and not pegged to a strict schedule - one of the handful of instructor programs in the world offering this.
Do keep in mind that NAUI expects a very high standard from its instructors, and so do we. Meeting all the requirements is no guarantee of success - we will use the "loved one" test to determine whether or not you pass. It is very simple: Do we trust the candidate to take a loved one out and teach them to dive? Would we send a spouse, a child or a close friend out to dive with this candidate? To get certified, the answer has to be clear and unequivocal "yes".
Hard work? Certainly. But we will be there to help you, and because the training schedule is tailored for each candidate, you will not be pressured into rushing into an IQP until you are fully and completely ready for it.
And the benefit of putting in this effort is that, at the conclusion, you are one of the select group of instructors that has met NAUI's exacting standards. |
